You want in-house developers sitting next to you?
If you look at job ads for developers, they are “usually” pretty much alike. There is an intro about what the company do, then some role info and some perks. Most also states that there is an office space that should be visited every day (so called “onsite”).
Some has moved to the incredible land of “Hybrid”. If you hire developers to work in an office they would need to use headphones in order to be able to work in the open office space.
Now, many companies has stopped working like that. Many companies offers remote work, because of the main reason (a part from what they spin) is that they couldn’t find any developers who wanted to work for them otherwise. Yes, that’s how remote work really started, long time before Covid-19.
There is a huge scarcity of developers all around the world, but mainly in the countries which has the companies based that needs them the most. I don’t mean the consultancy companies, but the Product companies. It’s extremely hard to find talent locally, not that it doesn't exist, but because they already have jobs — with a pretty good pay.
So the only way to get them to work for you would be to pay them more and offer better conditions. Most developers are “habit animals” and don’t really like to move around. We are all different of course. One developer once said: “finally I found someone I can tolerate to work with”. Funny.
Point is — it’s going to be expensive and time consuming. Again if you are a known brand with a name like Spotify (even though I know even they have to recruit internationally and relocate — they took a very good developer from Maersk Digital in Denmark when I worked as an Agile coach there), or Klarna – you could perhaps use your fame and coolness but even these companies offer remote work to attract global talent.
